Bell Let’s Talk Day January 26, 2022
Bell Let’s Talk Day occurs on January 26 this year. The initiative has been a charitable event dedicated to promoting and supporting mental health services across Canada. With the COVID-19 pandemic impacting our everyday lives, mental health continues to be an essential conversation in an effort to end mental health stigma through education, kindness, discussion, language, and listening.
Education around mental health will give individuals the language support and understand someone struggling with mental illness. Saying “I’m sorry you aren’t feeling well.” or asking “what can I do to help” can go a long way. You may have heard others say, “You’ll get over it” or “Just relax”. This can be hurtful and convey a message of disregard for someone’s feelings and show that you are not listening. Bell Let’s Talk also provides a toolkit found at https://letstalk.bell.ca/en/toolkit, which is free to download.
Support Bell Let’s Talk and fight for the end of stigma around mental health and to make a positive change. A few ways you can participate in the event are by texting, calling, tweeting, posting a TikTok video using the hashtag #BellLetsTalk, and using the Facebook and Snapchat lenses on January 26. Bell will be donating 5 cents for every applicable post and video view. They support 19 different organizations by providing various types of mental health support, from increasing services in rural areas to providing response teams at university campuses.
