Dr. Rixi Abrahamsohn received her PhD in psychology from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. She completed her predoctoral residency training at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in the Mood and Anxiety Program. Her areas of interest and expertise include diagnostic assessment and the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders. She has a particular interest in the treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Panic Disorder.
Dr. Abrahamsohn has extensive experience and training in providing Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in a variety of settings. At the Therapy Centre, Dr. Abrahamsohn provides individual CBT treatment for adults (18+) presenting with mood and anxiety issues (i.e., shyness, social anxiety, panic attacks, panic disorder, agoraphobia, rumination, and phobias including emetophobia), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), relationship difficulties, self-esteem, and stress management issues. Dr. Abrahamsohn uses CBT approaches, including exposure and response prevention (ERP) and Inference-Based CBT (ICBT) for the treatment of OCD and/or obsessive-compulsive symptoms. Dr. Abrahamsohn also incorporates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) into her practice with clients.
Dr. Abrahamsohn works from a collaborative, client-centred framework in developing treatment plans. She endeavours to build a strong therapeutic relationship with her clients that then forms the basis of their work together.
She is a member of The College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO), Canadian Association of Cognitive Behavioural Therapies (CACBT), the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF), the Association of Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (AICBT) and the Ontario Psychological Association (OPA). Dr. Abrahamsohn is also CACBT-ACTCC Certified in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
