Dr. Satinder Brar, C.Psych. (Supervised Practice)
Dr. Satinder Brar completed her Master’s degree and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Illinois. Her research focused on the impact of culture and mental health stigma on help-seeking attitudes. Dr. Brar currently works in private practice, providing assessment and counselling services to adults.
Dr. Brar’s clinical experience and areas of interest include anxiety, depression, trauma, emotional dysregulation, relational issues, adjustment difficulties, and life transitions. Dr. Brar uses a person-centered, humanistic approach to therapy and tailors her treatment to best fit the needs of the individual. She has been trained in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and incorporates aspects of emotion-focused and acceptance-based strategies into treatment. Additionally, she has an interest in helping clients work through complex trauma, including childhood sexual abuse using Dialectical Behaviour Therapy for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (DBT-PTSD).
Dr. Brar’s professional background includes diverse experiences in primarily outpatient care. She has provided comprehensive psychoeducational assessments in elementary school and university settings, has worked in inpatient and outpatient hospital programs, has offered psychological services in community mental health, as well as in university wellness centres.
Dr. Brar has appreciation for the incredible courage it takes to seek help and works to foster a safe, non-judgmental, and compassionate therapeutic space where vulnerability can be embraced. She aims to truly understand her client’s experience and work alongside them towards living a more meaningful and authentic life.
