Eating Disorders – Our Approach
Eating Disorders – Our Approach
The Therapy Centre employs a multi-disciplinary approach to the treatment of disordered eating and eating disorders. We work closely with a client’s team including physicians, dieticians, psychiatrists or other health care providers. We use evidence-based and innovative therapeutic modalities, including:
- Family-Based Therapy (FBT) Designed primarily for adolescents, FBT empowers parents to take an active role in their child’s recovery and in the families’ recovery from this illness.
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) works to address thoughts, feelings, and cognitive distortions and aims to restructure these distortions, manage subsequent feelings and eliminate eating disorder behaviours.
- Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) focuses on the processing of emotions underlying the eating disorder. It involves accessing, understanding and transforming emotion as well as self-soothing techniques. EFT helps clients regulate emotions that are being numbed or avoided by the eating disorder.
