Everyone has experienced stress at least once in their life. Stress occurs when the mind gets overwhelmed by emotional and mental pressures.

It is important to acknowledge that stressors are not always negative events, but can also be positive ones such as a vacation or marriage.  Most people may experience multiple stressors at once which eventually can affect sleep, relationships, and concentration.

Some common symptoms of stress include:

  • irritability
  • anxiousness
  • feeling uninterested in life
  • a sense of dread
  • shallow breathing or hyperventilating
  • panic attacks
  • muscle tension
  • blurred vision
  • sleep disturbances
  • grinding your teeth
  • headaches
  • chest pains
  • high blood pressure
  • indigestion
  • feeling dizziness or fainting

There are many effective therapeutic ways to reduce and prevent high levels of stress. At The Therapy Centre, we help adolescents and adults reduce their levels of stress with effective therapies, including: Mindfulness based approaches, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT).
