Tammy Benwell is a Registered Social Worker who received her Master’s degree from Wilfrid Laurier University (WLU) with a clinical focus. Tammy was previously a medical social worker providing mental health support in an acute mental health hospital. Currently she works in private practice supporting individuals, couples, and families through various life challenges. She treats adolescents, adults and seniors.
She engages in a variety of therapeutic modalities best suited to each unique client. She has trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Trauma Therapy (EMDR).
She has recently completed an Intensive Sex Therapy course through the University of Guelph and is interested in the following aspects of sex therapy; aging sexuality, porn use, sexuality after loss/traumatic events and sex & dating after separation/divorce.
Tammy works with a variety of life concerns, such as anxiety, depression, stress, grief, trauma, self-esteem, emergency / first responder services, interpersonal and relationship issues.
Tammy believes in fostering a collaborative, therapeutic relationship within which clients are best able to direct their own care. She embraces an eclectic therapeutic orientation in her practice, tailoring interventions to meet the client’s individualized needs. Tammy’s philosophy is best described as one which helps clients understand their role and their ability to achieve their desired happiness.
Tammy is a Registered Social Worker and is in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW).
