Dr. Janine Cutler, C. Psych

Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Janine Cutler received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Manitoba in 1994. She completed her internship training at The Canadian Mental Health Association, Winnipeg Region, where she was the manager for the Employment Program for individuals diagnosed with a major mental disorder.

Dr. Cutler has worked in the mental health and criminal justice system, and in private practice settings. For the past 27 years she has specialized in the areas of clinical and forensic psychology. Dr. Cutler works with adults and provides individual, couples, family, and group therapy.

Dr. Cutler has expertise in conducting psychological, medical-legal, and psychological risk assessments. She has an interest in the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders; bipolar disorder; psychosis; post-traumatic stress; personality disorders; physical, emotional, and sexual abuse; loss and grief; relationship issues; domestic violence; anger and emotions management; stress management; mindfulness; self-compassion; work-related issues, first responder services and addictions / substance abuse.

While working in the criminal justice system, Dr. Cutler conducted assessments for violent and sexual offending and special needs offenders. She offered treatment to offenders on a variety of clinical and criminal offending issues.

Dr. Cutler has widely used cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) within the mental health and correctional systems and in private practice. She also has training in dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT); acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR).

Dr. Cutler’s approach to therapy is eclectic, and she draws from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness, and Psychodynamic modalities. She works from a client-centered and feminist perspective, and with an awareness of diversity, social justice, and advocacy issues.

Dr. Cutler is a member of the College of Psychologists of Ontario, the Ontario Psychological Association, the Canadian Psychological Association, the Canadian Association of Cognitive and Behaviour Therapies, the Canadian Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology, and the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards: ASPPB Mobility Program.

Dr. Cutler works out of the Toronto location and offers virtual services throughout Ontario.
