Treatment Approach
The Therapy Centre employs a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of eating disorders. We work closely with our clients’ team including outpatient eating disorder hospital programs, physicians, dieticians, psychiatrists or other health care providers as warranted. We use evidence-based and innovative therapeutic modalities to treat eating disorders, including;
- Family-Based Therapy (the Maudsley Approach – FBT and Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT)) – In this approach with children and adolescents, we work to empower parents to take an active role in their child’s recovery and in the families’ recovery from this illness.
- Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT)– EFT works to process emotions underling an eating disorder. It involves accessing emotion, tolerating and understanding emotion, transforming emotion and self-soothing. In addition, there is a focus to help manage emotions that are often avoided with an eating disorder.
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)– CBT focuses on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. There is an emphasis on the exploration and restructuring of unhelpful thinking patterns, emotion regulation, and the elimination eating disorder behaviours.
