Nurse Practitioner

Shahnawaz has been working as a Nurse Practitioner in multiple mental health and addictions settings in his career. This includes working in several psychiatry clinics at Niagara Health and St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. He has taken on several leadership roles including chairing Nurse Practitioner advisory committees and clinical leadership for multiple interdisciplinary teams. He has been an advocate for addiction care and has worked at the Canadian Mental Health Association in Peel in the RAAM (Rapid access addiction medicine) clinic. He has a keen interest in psychedelic assisted therapy and has worked for Field trip Health and the Canadian Centre for Psychedelic Healing.

Shahnawaz has completed a Master’s degree in Nursing in the Adult Nurse Practitioner field at University of Toronto in 2015, receiving a Schulich Award for academic achievement. He continues to teach at the university and direct professional practice courses for his Nurse Practitioners colleagues.

Shahnawaz currently works in private practice where he provides comprehensive assessments, pharmacological treatment, coaching, and ketamine assisted psychotherapy. Shahnawaz’s career has focused on meeting the needs of mental health clients. He is passionate about combining high quality evidence informed care with a human touch and a functional focus.

Shahnawaz works at the Oakville location and offers virtual sessions throughout Ontario.
